Lok Satta Jayapraakash Narayan presents Anti-Curruption bill

Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) presented a draft Bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption (Andhra Pradesh) Act to Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy in the Assembly on Wednesday.

JP appealed to the government to introduce the Bill in the legislature in the budget session. The Bill if adopted would deem MLAs, MLCs, elected members of panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations as public servants and bring them under the purview of the Corruption Act.

The amendment Bill integrates recommendations, guidelines and suggestions of 166th Law Commission Report and the second Administrative Reforms Commission’s fourth report for eradicating corruption at all levels. It provides for attachment and seizure of property during investigation and forfeiture of property if the accused was found guilty. Its other recommendations were special court in every district, autonomy to ACB and effective power to Lok Ayukta and the Vigilance Commission.

JP said corruption reduced where technology and transparency was introduced and all it needed was political will and application of law.

72 year old woman tasered by police officer

A 72-year-old woman, Kathryn Winkfein, was tasered after a routine traffic stop that was anything but routine. Winkfein was driving 15 miles over the speed limit in Austin, Texas when she was pulled over by Officer Chris Beizie. When he asked her to sign a speeding ticket, Winkfein, who was driving 60 miles instead of the limit of 45 mph, refused.

Here is a narrative of the incident.

Officer Beizie warns, “Step back or you’re going to be tasered.”

Winkfein responds, "I dare you."

“Step back over there.” The officer points, waits, then appears to throw the ticket book on the ground.

“Put your hands behind your back,” he grabs Winkfein by the arm. “Put your hands behind your back.” Winkfein breaks free from the officer’s grip.

"I’m getting back in my car.” Winkfein tries to move past the officer but he grabs her and pushes her back. Raising his taser gun he demands,

"You’re going to be tased, stop.”

Again, Winkfein states,“I’m getting back in my car.”

The officer’s taser gun is raised and pointed at Winkfein.

Officer Beizie moves in, fires and demands Winkfein to get on the ground. Moments later you hear her writhing and moaning in pain. The officer demands,

“Now put your hands behind your back.” Winkfein, still groans as the officer demands a second time.

“Put your hands behind your back or you’re going to get tazed again.”

The officer continues to demand for Winkfein to put her hands behind her back. Her voice, muffled, whimpers,

“I’m trying.”

Authorities have said that Winkfein was not seriously injured. Officer Chris Beizie’s superior, Sergeant Major Gary Griffin, stated that Officer Beizie acted appropriately. The dash cam video was released by the Travis County Constables Office. Kathryn Winkfein has threatened to sue over the incident.

How Obama Got Elected

Documentary filmmaker John Ziegler was so sure that Barack Obama would win the presidency, he purchased the Web site URL “HowObamaGotElected.com” in June 2008.

Now, John Ziegler has produced a new film “Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted.” The film is obviously biased, but it’s also a film ABOUT bias. In “How Obama Got Elected,” John Ziegler puts TV news clips and his own research together to get his point across: that the “mainstream media delivered more favorable coverage for Barack Obama while targeting Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.”

John Ziegler believes this coverage “permeated the public consciousness” and delivered the election to the Obama-Biden presidential ticket.

Obviously, the film is fairly one-sided, but John Ziegler believes in his project: he invested over $200,000 of his own money to produce “How Obama Got Elected” and traveled to Alaska to interview Sarah Palin in person.

It’s very unlikely that “How Obama Got Elected” will change any progressive or liberal person’s mind about the election. Interviews with Jon Ziegler show that he’s abrasive (watch the Contessa Brewer / Jon Ziegler video to the left to get a taste), but he has a point.

What do you think? Is Jon Ziegler just bending the facts to fit his anti-Obama rhetoric, or is “How Obama Got Elected” a wonderful, enlightening film that shows the deep bias of the liberal media?
