New Delhi: After tennis superstar Maria Sharapova innocuously revealed that she has no idea who Sachin Tendulkar is, fans of the legendary cricketer bombarded her official Facebook page in a bid to 'enlighten' her. The five-time Grand Slam winner's page was filled with aggressive remarks - some even abusive - by surfers who were 'determined to teach her a lesson.' The frenzy overflowed on Twitter as well with "Who is Maria Sharapova' zooming to become the top trend soon after.
Interestingly, Sharapova's page on Facebook has approximately 13.6 million  likes which pales in comparison to the 20.1 million followers that Tendulkar's official page commands. The cricketer also eclipses Sharapova on Twitter with 3.2 million more followers.
The 'latest online battle' began when Sharapova was asked: "Sachin Tendulkar was the other person who came in at the same time as David. Do you know who Sachin is?" The French Open winner flatly replied: "I don't."
It came as a 'rude shock' to several fans of the veteran cricket - hailed the world over for his batting records.  Many argued that since Sharapova is a sportsperson, she should know about other sportspersons - especially the legends. There were also several posts titled 'Who is Sharapova? I don't know' which mocked the 27-year-old Russian player.
While fans of Tendulkar may be fuming, the former cricketer himself was his formal best as he visited Wimbledon and sat in the Royal Box with other sporting legends including Sir Bobby Charlton, David Beckham, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Robshaw

LPG price Hike To Affect only 1% Of consumers Government

Days after the price of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) was hiked by Rs. 16.50 per cylinder, the government on Thursday said the increase will impact less than 1 per cent of the consumers.

The price of non-subsidised LPG, which customers buy after using up their quota of 12 subsidised cylinders, was raised to Rs. 922.50 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi on July 1, the first hike in six months.

“More than 99 per cent customers use less than 12 cylinders per year and thus will remain unaffected by this hike. This price increase will affect only less than 1 per cent of consumers who consume more than 12 cylinders per annum,” an official statement said in New Delhi on Thursday.

While the price of subsidised LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Rs. 414 per bottle, oil companies revise non-subsidised cooking gas rates every month in step with the cost of production.

The Iraq crisis led to oil prices hardening globally and depreciation of the rupee, making imports costlier.

Non-subsidised LPG prices had been declining since February, when the rate was cut by Rs. 107 to Rs. 1,134 per cylinder.

The price was reduced by Rs. 53.50 to Rs. 1,080.50 per cylinder in March, by Rs. 100 to Rs. 980.50 in April, by Rs. 52 in May and by Rs. 23.50 last month. The price went up by one rupee last month after freight rates were increased.

The oil ministry says the loss for state-owned oil firms on the sale of every subsidised cylinder is Rs. 449, compared with Rs. 432.71 in the previous month and Rs. 762.50 in January.

Oil marketing companies revise rates of non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinders in accordance with international prices, the statement said.

Alia Bhatt, who has sung the unplugged version of ‘Main Tainu Samjhawan Ki’, not only wants to pursue singing in films, but also dreams of cutting an album one day.

She has provided her voice for a song in ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’ and her dad Mahesh Bhatt praised her talent, calling her “a raw and wild diamond, a wild flower”.

“If I get an opportunity, I would love to sing. I really enjoy singing and want to take it forward. I wouldn’t want to restrict myself to singing for films alone — I want to cut an album of my own one day,” the 21—year—old said.

The song, originally sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, has also been sung by Arijit Singh for the film.

For ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, Alia has teamed up with Varun Dhawan for the second time. The film hits theatres July 11.

Rajinikanth plays Dual Avatar In Lingaa

 Superstar Rajinikanth, who is currently busy shooting for Tamil action movie ‘Lingaa’, will reportedly be seen in dual avatar in the film. He will be playing a district collector, as well as an unknown role in a flashback sequence.

“Rajini sir is playing double role in the film. He plays a district collector in the present day of the story, while he will be seen in a different role in the flashback sequence. The filmmakers have kept it a secret,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.

Rajinikanth and the rest of the crew are currently shooting in Hyderabad. Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has been selected to play the leading lady.

Directed by K. S. Ravikumar, ‘Lingaa’ also features Jagapathi Babu in an important role. Meanwhile, A. R. Rahman is composing the film’s music

The U.S. has high expectations about a new momentum of India’s economic growth under the new government, a senior American Senator on Thursday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi who expressed desire to take the relationship to a new level.

Senator John McCain who met Mr. Modi in New Delhi conveyed the keen desire in the U.S. to work with him to revitalise the India-U.S. strategic partnership.

Mr. Modi said he hoped for forward looking visit to the U.S. in September this year to take the relationship to a new level.

“Prime Minister conveyed his desire to further deepen and expand the strategic partnership, based on our shared values and interests, sensitivity to each other’s concerns and tangible progress across the full spectrum of bilateral relations,” said a statement by the PMO.

Mr. Modi added that the success of democratic countries and their cooperation will advance peace, stability and prosperity in the world.

Both the leaders have also discussed the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The Prime Minister expressed concern over the increased threat of terrorism across the world, and reiterated that the fight against terror should be a global priority for humanitarian forces,” the statement added.

Both built their innings solidly, getting their eye in before branching out. Pujara was the first one to show intent, getting off the mark with a straight-driven four. Jadeja came in, and should have been dismissed immediately when he opened the face to a shortish delivery to give the slips catching practice. Binny, who had come in to replace Jadeja, got hit on the pads a few times, looked to be playing with his hands too hard early in the innings, but displayed a few attractive shots once he settled down. He remained unbeaten on 81 off 111 deliveries, hitting two sixes and nine fours.

The playing conditions decided upon in the match dictate both the sides declare their first innings after a day's play each, and split the third day down the middle. It makes the third day interesting because the Indians get to bowl again, and we get to see if Mohammad Shami has recovered from his calf strain to be able to get some overs into his legs. ]
