Alludu Sreenu Telugu Movie Review

Alludu Sreenu is an upcoming 2014 Telugu comedy drama film directed by V. V. Vinayak. Produced by Bellamkonda Suresh on his banner Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Productions, the film marks the debut of his son Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas as a hero with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Brahmanandam and Prakash Raj playing important roles.[2] Devi Sri Prasad composed the music for this film while Chota K. Naidu and Gautham Raju handled the cinematography and editing of the film respectively. The film was officially launched on February 15, 2013 at Hyderabad.[3] The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on July 24, 2014 in theaters

n early February 2013, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was selected to play the heroine in this film as a part of the three film deal she entered with Bellamkonda Suresh.[11] She stated that she accepted to be a part of the film only due to her good relationship with Bellamkonda Suresh when he helped her during the time when she was suffering with serious skin ailments. She said "Bellamkonda Suresh has stood by me during the toughest phase in my life and I am doing this film for him."[12] A photo shoot was conducted later on Samantha and Sai Sreenivas in the same month.[13] In mid-March 2013, it was reported that Tamannaah was selected as the other heroine of the film and it was said that Bellamkonda Suresh offered her a huge remuneration for the film. She too confirmed the news that she is sharing the screen along with a debutante hero.[14] But since the previous two scripts were not accepted by Vinayak himself and after penning a fresh script, Tamannaah was no more a part of the film as the new one required a single heroine only.[15] In the end of January 2014, Prakash Raj reacted in his twitter about the speculations that he would play a double role in Mahesh Babu's Aagadu that he is not playing a dual role in that film but he is playing a dual role in this film which he called an "interesting" one.[16] In the end of March 2014, it was reported that Tamannaah would do a special song in the film.[17]

It was said that she would participate in the shoot for this song in the end of April 2014 or early May 2014.[18] It was also said that the song would be the introduction song of the hero in the film.[19] But by the time the reports emerged into the media, Tamannaah wrapped up the shoot of the song in the film on March 31 and V. V. Vinayak thanked her for accepting the offer in his Facebook page.[20] The song, a romantic one, was shot in Hyderabad in a vineyard set for 5 days. In an interaction to Chennai Times, Tamannaah's father said "The primary reason why she agreed to do this song was because it is the most important song in the film. It is not an item song but a romantic number and the director narrated how he intends to shoot it. It is true that a year ago, when the script was first written, Tamannaah had chosen to be a part of this film. However, when the script was changed, we mutually agreed to part ways. But despite that, both Tamannaah and Vinayak have mutual respect for each other and that is why, when Vinayak requested Tamannaah to do this one song for him, she agreed

Dark side of Deshmukh

Dark side of  Deshmukh

Riteish Deshmukh is late for the media interaction. Terribly, terribly late. When the media is just about to walk out, he arrives in style, apologising a bit and promising “a great interview to make up for it”. So, we settle down.

Humshakals is being trolled on social media but brickbats notwithstanding, Riteish has a success party to attend that night. “Let’s say the verdict is still not out on the film. We’ve got a Rs. 40-crore weekend. If that is not a good BO, then I don’t know what is! Of course, we can’t turn our backs to the criticism. Critics are extremely good guide points, but sometimes public opinion differs. I know that some really mean jokes are going around about the film, but I feel it is more of a competition about whose joke can better the last one. It has happened to many celebrities in the recent past — Alok Nathji for one. Social media jokes are not disturbing,” says Riteish.

Within a week of the Sajid Khan film, Riteish has the Mohit Suri film Ek Villain slated for a June 27 release. And this one showcases him in a totally different light. Riteish plays a telephone maintenance guy who is reportedly a serial killer. Asked if he was concerned about audience reaction to the jump in genres with two dramatically different films in successive weeks, he says, “I know that on a practical level, things change quickly. The screen count will go low. A lot will also depend on how hot your second film is. However, I am as excited about Ek Villain as I was about Humshakals. I have always been asked why comedy and, though I don’t want to say that Ek Villain is the answer, as it is too early to say anything, I certainly hope it is! It will give filmmakers an idea of the range of roles I can do.”

Wife and actress Genelia D’Souza has a lot to do with his decision to take on the role of the antagonist. “Two weeks before I was offered the film, Genelia had told me that I must take up something in the dark space. When Ek Villain came my way, she asked me to just take it on. I didn’t even know who the other actors were. I said yes just because the subject appealed,” he says, adding that Shraddha Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra came on board later.

Ek Villain has been a mentally challenging role, says Riteish, “The character had no crutch — no menacing makeup, no limp or action sequences. Rakesh is a simple guy. He could be the person you are travelling with in the train and never know what’s going on in his mind. He is against my personality. On the first day of the shoot, in fact, I couldn’t fathom why he was doing what he was. By the third day, I could digest the character. But by the sixth day, and that was the scary part, I felt I could be him. Each of us can let out negativity in a very wrong way and I sensed that up close and personal.”

The year holds a lot of promise, with the couple expecting their first baby and Riteish’s first Marathi film as actor, Nishikant Kamat’s masala entertainer Lai Bhaari, lined up for release on July 11.

On sex comedies

“When I said earlier that I wouldn’t like to do another Grand Masti, I never meant I would never touch a sex comedy. I quite like the genre and hey that was a Rs. 100-crore film for me! I know we went a little overboard and people didn’t appreciate it, but I will still do something in that space if there is uniqueness. Else I have given all that I could have. I love The Hangover, for instance, and if someone tries to make a film like that, I’d be in.”

On Marathi films

“Producing Balak Palak and Yellow (Special Jury Award at the National Awards this year) has given me the sort of confidence that I am enjoying. I will continue producing good content-driven Marathi films. As for acting in them, I will do it only if my Bollywood commitments permit. Nishikant Kamat’s Lai Bhaari is something I am really excited about. It’s a great title that everyone uses colloquially and it’s a great subject too

Netherlands Reach World Cup Quarterfinals

Netherlands Reach World Cup Quarterfinals

The Netherlands staged a remarkable late comeback in Fortaleza as goals from Wesley Sneijder and Klaas—Jan Huntelaar gave the Dutch a 2—1 win over Mexico and a place in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Huntelaar converted a penalty won by Arjen Robben in the fourth minute of stoppage time after Sneijder volleyed home an 88th minute equalizer.

Mexico had been the better team for long spells and had led through a wonderful long shot from Giovani dos Santos in the 48th minute.

But the Netherlands turned things around late on and face the winner of Sunday’s later tie between Costa Rica and Greece in the quarterfinal in Salvador on Saturday.

The Mexicans entered the match with the weight of history lying heavily upon their shoulders. They had only reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup when held inside their own country (1970 and 1986) and had lost five round-of-16 matches in succession.

That became six in a row in the most agonizing fashion imaginable as they threw away a winning position within sight of full time.

As the Netherlands struggled to adapt to the heat and humidity, a 48th minute strike from dos Santos beat the diving Jasper Cillessen for pace and accuracy.

Charismatic coach Miguel Herrera, looking unruffled in the heat despite wearing a suit and tie, exploded on the touchline in his trademark celebration.

Given the display of the Netherlands to this point, he must have felt the goal could be enough to see his team into the next round.

But with no choice but to push forward, the Netherlands responded and began throwing men forward against the green wall of the Mexico defence.

It looked as though their efforts would be in vain but when Robben’s corner kick was headed into the path of Sneijder, the midfielder sent an unstoppable volley into the net which left Guillermo Ochoa without a hope.

And when Robben was fouled in the box by Rafael Marquez, substitute Huntelaar had the chance to win the game. Though seeking his first goal of the tournament, the Schalke forward kept cool in the Fortaleza heat to send Ochoa the wrong way from 12 yards. Earlier, Ochoa made an instinctive save to deny Stefan de Vrij from a corner kick, turning the ball onto the post, before he also denied Robben as the Dutch pressure increased.
It was a turnaround from the first half that Mexico controlled as Hector Herrera guided a shot just wide before Cillessen saved from Carlos Salcido, brought into midfield for the suspended Jose Vazquez, and blocked from dos Santos at a tight angle.

During a remarkable journey through the group stage, which started with a 5—1 thrashing of reigning champions Spain, it seemed possible the Netherlands could achieve great things in Brazil.
But in the heat, the pace which characterized their earlier matches was absent. Robin Van Persie, back from a ban, hardly contributed and the ineffective Manchester United striker was subbed with 15 minutes remaining.

For long spells the Netherlands looked more like reluctant fathers dragged out to play in the searing midday sun by their enthusiastic children than a top side chasing a quarterfinal berth at the World Cup.
When they did have possession, it was retained with the sole ambition of conserving energy rather than to probe the Mexican defence for gaps.

But with their backs to the wall, the Netherlands responded when they had to and in the best possible fashion. Their dream continues while Mexico rue what might have been.

Obama To seek 2 Billion From Congress To tackle child Migrant Crisis

Obama To seek 2 Billion From Congress To tackle child Migrant Crisis

WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama is to ask Congress for more than $2 billion to deal with the surge in unaccompanied children flooding into the United States along its southern border.

Obama will make the request for emergency funding in a letter on Monday, asking Congress to act when it returns from a holiday recess on July 7, a White House official said on Sunday.

In addition, Obama will seek greater authority for US immigration officials to speed up the deportation of children caught crossing from countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, the official said.

The request will mark a major step in Obama's attempt to gain control of a chaotic scene on the US border with Mexico where tens of thousands of children have crossed without their parents, straining resources and creating a political and humanitarian crisis.

Obama will ask Congress to increase penalties for the so-called "coyotes" who smuggle children across the border and profit from it.

The official said Obama will also request a "sustained border security surge through enhanced domestic enforcement," along with an increase in immigration judges to more speedily adjudicate the cases of recent border crossers.

Obama will step up efforts with Central American countries to repatriate migrants who are returned to their home countries and address the root causes of migration. And, the official said, he will seek "the resources necessary to appropriately detain, process and care for children and adults."

In an ABC interview last week Obama urged Central American parents not to let their children leave on a frequently hazardous trip to the United States, but his words have so far had little impact as more than 52,000 children have crossed the border since last October.

Congressional Republicans have expressed outrage at the Obama administration's handling of the crisis, accusing the government of letting the children into the country to pile pressure on Congress to approve a long-stalled immigration overhaul.

A very special victory: Saina

A very special victory: Saina

Saina Nehwal says that her victory over Carolina Marin in the final of the Australian Super Series in Sydney on Sunday was a very special achievement for her.
“I will remember this for a long time. Firstly, it was a very difficult final for me because I had to play with blisters and it was painful. I was under immense pressure during the final. Carolina is a very dangerous player who could not be taken lightly and she had reached the final after some impressive wins too,” the 24-year-old Saina told The Hindu from Sydney after her title-triumph.
“I think this is a victory which has answered all the questions of critics who thought I could never win again,” said Saina.
“Now, I have won the seventh Super Series title. And, I believe that I have done it with my hard work and strong will power — I just believed that I could win this one. I owe a lot to chief coach Gopi Sir and the support staff including Maqdoom and physio Kiran,” she said.
“This was the most challenging win because I had to prove this time that I am one of the best players in the world. Definitely, in terms of confidence, this win should do a world of good. Such victories will change my outlook for the next few major events lined up.
“Now with a Super Series title win after such a long gap, the huge load of recent disappointments has gone off my shoulder.
“Winning a gold medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics is the dream that I am chasing,” concluded the champion from Hyderabad.

Anil Kapoor Recommends Sonam To Salman Khan

Anil Kapoor Recommends Sonam To Salman Khan

Salman Khan had said famously that he wants to relaunch Deepika Padukone. Deepika had revealed that Salman wanted to cast her in his film but she wasn’t ready then.
So when we heard the two will come together for Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, we were seriously excited to watch them together. But then we heard about Sonam Kapoor’s confirmation for the role opposite Salman. Although dampened, we were interested to see them together again after Saawariya. Now we hear it was Anil Kapoor helped her gain the film.
Apparently, Anil suggested Sonam to Salman Khan for Barjatya’s film. The news reached Barjatya and he decided to meet up with Kapoor to discuss this further. They had a chat and Sooraj was conviced Sonam would look good in the role. In fact, Salman too felt Sonam is perfect for the character.
Well, we hope the film turns out well for both Sonam and Sooraj because as long as Salman Khan is a part of it, the film will definitely be grand. We just hope the director will manage to extract the best out of the actress.

Dravid joins Indian Team As Mentor For England Tour

Dravid joins Indian Team As Mentor For England Tour

Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed in a mentoring role to the team in the run-up to their five-Test series in England. Dravid will have a few sessions with the players before the series begins on July 9. He is expected to join the team latest by Monday.

Rahul Dravid in action during the 2011 England tour. Rahul Dravid in action during the 2011 England tour. The move was initiated by the team management, according to BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel. "It was the coach (Duncan Fletcher) who approached us on behalf of the team and said it would be good to have Rahul with his vast experience spend some time with the boys ahead of the series," Patel told ESPNcricinfo. "We immediately requested Rahul and he readily agreed."

This will be the first time Dravid, who has been mentoring IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals after retiring from international cricket in 2012, will be associated in such a capacity with the national team.

In March this year, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar had said that Dravid should take over as India coach, but the latter had declined the suggestion citing lack of time.

"Rahul Dravid is one man who is enormously respected and was a successful captain, having won series in West Indies and England," Gavaskar had said. "When he speaks, the Indian players, some of whom are superstars, listen to him as they know how much preparation went into his game."

"I am happy that he (Gavaskar) said I am capable of doing the job," Dravid had said. "But the job requires a lot of time, almost 11 months a year. I have just retired and at the moment because of time constraints, I have to decline."

Dravid was India's best batsman on their previous tour of England in 2011, his three centuries the only bright spot in a 0-4 rout. In all, six of Dravid's 36 Test hundreds came in England, where he made 1376 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 68.80. He also had a successful stint with county side Kent in 2000, scoring 1221 runs in 16 matches at 55.50 with two centuries.

Ratha-Yatra In Puri

Rath Yatras Of Jagannath

Over ten lakh devotees witnessed the world famous annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath held here today with fanfare, religious fervour and enthusiasm amid tight security as the practice of people climbing the chariots was stopped in a major reform initiative.

However, Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati did not visit the chariots before they were pulled accusing the Odisha government of interfering in religious matters by asking him to ascend the raths (chariots) alone without his disciples.

“The state government has dared to dictate terms to the Shankaracharya of Puri. I will not visit the chariots before they are pulled for Rath Yatra,” Saraswati had told reporters at the Govardhan Peeth in Puri yesterday.

Devotees from across the country and abroad descended on the pilgrim town of Puri in Odisha for a glimpse of the presiding deities of the 12th century shrine of Sri Jagannath and mingled with the sea of humanity during the annualfestival of chariots.

“The festival was held peacefully in a smooth manner. There was no untoward incident as elaborate security measures were taken,” a senior police officer said.

A tight security net comprising around 7,000 police personnel was in place as a precautionary measure, he said adding apart from force deployment, CCTV and spy cameras had been installed.

Personnel of Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and sharp shooters were deployed at vital points while the Coast Guard kept a vigil on the sea.

The annual event was marked by a major reform – the practice of devotees climbing the chariots and touching the deities was put to an end.

Devotees poured in to the seaside town since early morning to watch the ceremony and pull the three majestic and colourful chariots on the ‘bada danda’, the grand avenue.

A host of VIPs including Odisha Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik witnessed the proceedings. As the presiding deities, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra – set out from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, a number of special rituals like ‘Mangla Arati’ and ‘Mailam’ were performed.

Descending from the Ratna Sinhasana, the bejewelled throne, the three deities were taken out of the temple down the 22 steps known as ‘Baisi Pahacha’ through the Lion’s gate in an elaborate royal ritual called ‘Pahandi’ as devotees and sevayats jostled to have a glimpse and touch them.

In a rhythmic style, the deities moved froward step by step to the accompaniment of beating of ‘ghantas’ and ‘kahalis’ and blowing of konch shells.

The temple was thrown open to public only yesterday for ‘Naba Jaubana Darshan’ of the deities as they remained confined in ‘Anasara Pindi’ (recovery chamber) after the grand bath on ‘Snana Purnima’ held on June 13.

Eyes On Defence Deals Western Powers Court Modi

Eyes On Defence Deals Western Powers Court Modi

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Western governments are rushing to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawn by the prospect of multi-billion-dollar deals as the Indian government prepares to open the nascent defence industry to foreign investment.
Senior politicians from France, the United States and Britain arrive in quick succession over the next 10 days as Modi prepares to accelerate the modernisation of the country's mostly Soviet-era weaponry.

Modi intends to build up India's military capabilities and gradually turn the world's largest arms importer into a heavyweight manufacturer - a goal that has eluded every prime minister since independence in 1947.

On the table is a proposal circulated within the new government to raise caps on foreign investment - with one option to allow complete foreign ownership of some defence projects.
"All the countries are trying to make their case, especially as there is the sense that the Indian market will undergo a shift," said Harsh Pant, professor of international relations at King's College London.

"They get a sense from their dealings that something dramatic is going to happen and they want first-mover advantage," said Pant, who specialises in Indian defence.
First to arrive in New Delhi will be French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, whose top priority is to close a stalled deal to sell India 126 Rafale fighter jets, built by Dassault Aviation, for an estimated $15 billion.

Fabius, who arrives on Monday, will meet Modi as well as his most powerful minister, Arun Jaitley, who holds the twin portfolios of defence and finance - and can therefore decide both whether to sign the deal and when to release the money.
U.S. Senator John McCain is also due in India next week. McCain, whose Arizona constituency includes weapons makers such as Boeing and Raytheon, told the Senate on Thursday that Washington should seek to bolster India's economic and military rise.

"This is an area where U.S. defence capabilities, technologies, and cooperation - especially between our defence industries - can benefit India enormously," McCain said of India's drive to modernise the armed forces.
UK STILL HOPEFUL ON FIGHTER JET

In the second week of July, Britain is likely to send in Foreign Secretary William Hague and finance minister George Osborne, a British government source said on Friday.
Britain has drawn some cheer from the slow progress of the negotiations for the Rafale deal. The Eurofighter Typhoon was shortlisted along with the Dassault fighter before India announced the French jet was the winner.

Cost escalations and disagreements about building the Rafale in partnership with India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have complicated talks with France, and London has never entirely given up hope that it will return to the race.

However, on Thursday, one source at the Indian defence ministry said the deal was likely to be finally closed during Fabius' visit and could be signed this year. A French foreign ministry source said talks were ongoing, but refused to provide more detail.
Russia, for years India's top weapons supplier, pipped all three countries to the post, sending Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin to visit the new government in Delhi two weeks ago. Washington last year replaced Moscow as India's top defence supplier, according to IHS Jane's.

The Western nations will have noted that India's foreign minister expressed displeasure with Russia's recent offer to sell Mi-35 attack helicopters to India's arch-rival Pakistan.
"I don’t think it’s a competition," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal said after an early post-election visit to New Delhi.

"India will have strong and positive relationships with a variety of countries and that is to be encouraged," said Biswal. "We want to see India taking on a stronger and a leadership role in the region and around the world so we welcome that."

$6 BILLION SPREE

India spent some $6 billion last year on weapons imports. It makes few of its own weapons, beyond ballistic missiles and assembly lines for foreign jets.
On Thursday, the government signalled it was in the mood for liberalisation by allowing manufacturers to build more defence components without licences, making it easier for Indian firms to partner foreigners.

At present foreign companies can only invest 26 percent in Indian defence projects without committing to technology transfer, which has put off many investors.
Before the election, sources in Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party said there was a plan to increase the cap to 49 percent.

"For higher-tech intellectual property we would want to go over 50 percent to be in a position to share technology that we have significant investments in," said Phil Shaw, chief executive of Lockheed Martin India Pvt Ltd.
"An uplift from 26 to 49 percent maintains the status quo and may not be sufficient incentive to make an investment here."

Lockheed Martin already has a 26 percent investment in an Indian joint venture with Tata Advanced Systems that manufactures airframe components for the C-130J Super Hercules cargo lifter.
India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion has circulated a discussion document that proposes allowing up to 100 percent foreign direct investment, or FDI, in defence production, two government officials told Reuters.

The note suggested allowing 100 percent FDI in manufacturing of state-of-the art equipment, one of the officials said. It also recommends a cap of 49 percent for investments which do not involve transfer technology and a 74 percent ceiling in such cases where the foreign investor is ready to share technology know-how, the official added.
Last week, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said foreign investment in the sector would help increase defence preparedness of the country and reduce import dependence, saving billions of dollars in foreign exchange.

However, she said the government was yet to take a final call on increasing the FDI ceiling and the decision would be taken by Jaitley and Modi. The proposals face pockets of resistance in Indian industry, Modi's party and the military establishment.
A.K. Antony, who was India's longest serving defence minister until his Congress party's election defeat in May, said this week that allowing higher foreign investment in defence would be "suicidal".

Ek Villain Bollywood Movie Review

Ek Villain Bollywood Movie Review

Cast: Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Aamna Sharif
Direction: Mohit Suri
Genre: Romance
Duration: 2 hours 10 minute

Story: When Guru's love Aisha is threatened by Rakesh, a villain, the evil within him resurfaces. He too bays for blood and how.

Review: Guru (Sidharth) is a gangster who is happy to let his gun speak. Till the effervescent, virginal Aisha (Shraddha), a Good Samaritan, crosses his path. Opposite attract. His gun goes silent as the two of them chase the rainbow together. The texture of their relationship has that fairy-tale quality. And just when they start to build their castle, brick by brick, their life is stopped on the tracks by a psychotic serial killer Rakesh (Riteish).

Guru, who had dropped his gun in exchange for a bed of roses with Aisha, rediscovers metal. Inspired largely by Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-Woon's I Saw the Devil (2010), Mohit Suri's romantic thriller is Bollywoodised for the desi market.

While the Korean film relied on too much blood and gore, Suri's film mixes romance and violence in equal measure, letting the plot meander a bit butallowing for some sharp twists as well. So there are those sweet moments interspersed with the melodious galliyan track rendered beautifully by Ankit Tewari. And there are also those look-over-your-shoulder thrills because suddenly, you have not one, but two villains running amok on screen. The cat and mouse game between the two bad men is exciting. However, there is some repeated violence that makes you squirm and wish that the writer had kept the plot tighter.

Sidharth kills with his good looks and delivers an angry man performance deftly; Riteish strikes the right amount of fear in his maniacal gear. Shraddha is bubbly and achingly beautiful. But the supporting cast should have been chosen more discerningly. Aamna Sharif as Riteish's nagging wife is an irritant and Remo Fernandes as the mafia don should definitely have had more menace.

You cannot fault the scale of Ek Villain or berate its lead star cast. But you wish you could celebrate this thriller like you did Suri's last movie outing Aashiqui 2. This one lacks soul.

KCR Bats For Bharat Ratna To PV Narasimha Rao

KCR Tribute To PV Narasimha Rao

Glowing tributes were paid to former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on Saturday as the new Telangana government celebrated his 93rd birth anniversary as a state function for the first time.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, a host of ministers, MPs, MLAs, Jnanpeeth awardee C. Narayana Reddy and leaders of various parties offered floral tributes to the “son of the soil” at PV Gnana Bhoomi in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described the late Prime Minister as a “perfect human being” and a man with great ideals.

A leader like P.V. Narasimha Rao is very rare on the Indian political map. He was a modern Chanakya, a multi-faceted personality and a man with his feet firmly on the ground. He was the father of economic reforms in the country,” the Governor said.

From being a freedom fighter, who took an active part in the Quit India Movement, P.V. Narasimha Rao rose to occupy every post in Indian polity.
He was a man who rose from a small position to the highest position in the country. We have to always remember that,” the Governor said.
Recalling his association with the former Prime Minister, the Governor pointed out that PV was a man who took bureaucratic decisions.

My indecision is a conscious decision,” Mr. Narasimhan quoted PV as telling him once when, as the then top Intelligence Bureau official, he went to get a filed cleared.
PV ji had a great sense of humour. He will finish you off with that. He was man of great ideals. He is not a man or name to be forgotten,” Mr. Narasimhan added.

Stating that the former PM was a ‘lover of Ayurveda’, the Governor asked the Telangana government to develop a herbal garden at the PV Gnana Bhoomi.

The Chief Minister said his Cabinet would soon pass a resolution requesting the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on the late legend.
The Chief Minister announced on the occasion that a memorial building that would house the memorabilia of the late Prime Minister would be constructed in Hyderabad. “It will showcase PV’s life, his literature, speeches and other things,” he added.

A new district that will be carved out soon will be named after P V Narasimha Rao. We will also name a new university in Telangana after him,” Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said.
He requested the Centre to build a befitting memorial to the former Prime Minister in New Delhi.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao lamented that PV did not get the deserved honour at the national level though he was a genius on many fronts.

The Chief Minister recalled that PV was the first Chief Minister to implement the Land Reforms Act passed by the Centre. “He (PV) did not go back on this despite knowing that he would face many problems. He eventually lost his post,” KCR pointed out.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also paid tributes to the former Prime Minister.
He (PV) was a thinker, a multi-faceted genius, an exceptional economist, who pioneered landmark economic reforms, a man of great integrity, a polyglot, a translator, a distinguished poet and an acclaimed author

Most Powerful People On Twitter

Most Powerful People On Twitter

Twitter recently released a list of influential people on the site who are most followed and retweeted. None of the first five surprised us as they deserved to be where they are. It is also interesting to see friends turned foe going back to back. It’s as if whatever they do, they are incomplete without each other.

The fifth position went to Sachin Tendulkar who bid adieu to all forms of cricket a year back. His farewell speech wet everyone’s eyes and it isn’t a surprise that he is part of the list. He is still missed on the field and off it too. And perhaps that’s the reason why he is so popular on twitter.

The fourth position went to one and only Salman Khan. There is no rocket science as to why he is one of the most powerful celebs on Twitter. His quotes are as weird as his films but people still love him like crazy.

The third position went to Shah Rukh Khan who seemed to be the apple of everyone’s eye. Being a well-educated and learned man, SRK’s tweets are a perfect blend of amusement and knowledge. His mischievous self is often at play on Twitter when he writes quirk quotes. Many websites run only on his tweets, trying to figure out what exactly SRK meant when he said, “I am happy and well.”

The second position goes to the actor of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan. He is the first celeb who kickstarted the trend of announcing family news on twitter. He disclosed about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s pregnancy and her subsequent child Aaradhya. Even today, he likes to give out specific details about his life and work through his handle.

And the first place goes to our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since his boisterous campaigns across the country, his abki baar modi sarkaar trended insanely. Now, people are interested to know where are the achehe din

Opening Of world Tallest water slide Delayed

Opening Of world  Tallest water slide Delayed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — With nearly half of its season already in the books, a water park in Kansas has been forced to delay the opening of the world's tallest water slide for the third time and hasn't set a new date for its debut.

Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City announced Thursday that Verruckt, a 17-story, 168-foot-tall water slide, would not open on Sunday as scheduled. The park's news release did not give a reason for the latest delay, although earlier this week two media sneak preview days were canceled because of problems with a conveyor system that hauls 100-pound rafts to the top of the slide.

Verruckt, which means "insane" in German, was certified as the world's tallest water slide in April by Guinness World Records. The slide sends riders on four-person rafts plummeting at 60 mph to 70 mph.

The ride's initial opening date was moved from May 23 to June 5 to allow for more testing, then pushed back again to June 29. Schlitterbahn spokeswoman Winter Prosapio said earlier this week that park officials would not hesitate to delay operation again for however long it takes to make sure the slide is safe.

"We'll take embarrassment before putting someone in the slide when it is not ready," she said.

In a news article linked to the news release announcing the latest delay, Schlitterbahn co-owner Jeff Henry told USA Today that he and senior designer John Schooley had based their calculations when designing the slide on roller coasters, but that didn't translate well to a water slide like Verruckt.

In early tests, rafts carrying sandbags flew off the slide, prompting engineers to tear down half of the ride and reconfigure some angles at a cost of $1 million, Henry said.

He said testing of the slide was conducted after dark to avoid media helicopters that had been buzzing over the park after hours.

The Associated Press reached out Friday morning through Prosapio for an interview with Henry, but he had not responded to that request several hours later.

Sunday's opening had been scheduled to coincide with a one-hour special on the Travel Channel titled "Xtreme Waterparks" documenting the designing and building of Verruckt.
A promotional video for the show includes footage of two men riding a raft down a half-size test model of the slide and going slightly airborne as it crests the top of the first big hill.

Henry told USA Today that while Schlitterbahn is a family water park, Verruckt isn't a family ride.
"It's for the thrill seekers of the world, people into extreme adventure," he said.
Schlitterbahn's season started May 23, and the park will be open daily through Aug. 17, after which it will be open two more weekends before the season ends

Jeep To Enter India Market In 2015 - Executive

Jeep To Enter India Market In 2015 - Executive

Fiat ChryslerAutomobiles will begin selling Jeep, the SUV brandcentral to its global expansion, in India in 2015, the brand'schief, Mike Manley, said on Thursday.

Manley said the original plan was for Jeep to enter theIndia market in late-2013, but that was delayed because he didnot feel the brand would enter the market strongly at the time.

By 2020 India will be the world's third-largest auto market, behind China and the United States, with sales nearly doublingto about 6 million vehicles, according to consultancy IHSAutomotive.

Manley, speaking at a Fiat Chrysler test track event insoutheast Michigan, said the mid-sized Cherokee and the ruggedWrangler SUV will be the first models sold in India. But thosemodels, which are two core vehicles for the brand, are expectedto corner only a small fraction of the massive Indian marketbecause of their relatively lofty price, which will be escalatedby the import duty.

"If we're going to be successful with Jeep, you'll have tolocalize a vehicle in India," he said.
Jeep could start local production at a Fiat-Tata Motors Ltd joint-venture plant, but there is little sparecapacity as Fiat just refreshed its lineup in India, Manleysaid. He would not discuss future production plans.

Fiat has about 115 dealers in India, but no Jeep dealers. Atthe launch of Jeep sales, Manley said he wants 15 to 20 dealersthere.

ON TRACK FOR 1 MILLION JEEP SALES

Manley also told reporters that Jeep is on track to meetFiat Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne'sambitious goal of selling 1 million vehicles globally this year,up 37 percent.
"Last month helped us a lot, hitting 100,000 vehicles aroundthe world. It was a really big milestone," Manley said.

Whether Jeep hits the 1 million target will largely dependon continued strong Cherokee sales in North America, the successof the ongoing launch of Cherokee in Australia as well as theramp-up of sales of the Renegade in Europe before the end of theyear, Manley said.
Renegade, the subcompact SUV to be produced in Italy, willbe launched in Europe in the fourth quarter and in the UnitedStates in early 2015, Manley said.

While the Wrangler and larger Grand Cherokee SUV are thebest-selling Jeeps, it was through models like the smallerRenegade that Fiat Chrysler hopes to expand the brand outsideNorth America.

Manley has said the small-size SUV market will grow to 2million vehicles worldwide by the end of 2015.
In China, Manley said, the first Jeep Cherokee models are ontrack to be produced there by the end of 2015.

Jeep has about 240 dealers in China, and 360 Fiat dealers

Delhi University Moves To End Standoff over course

Delhi University Moves To End Standoff over course

New Delhi: Delhi University Thursday said it had told the UGC it was ready to restore the earlier three-year undergraduate course in a bid to end a row sparked by a controversial four-year programme.
"Today we have sent the proposal to the UGC (University Grants Commission) and are waiting for their response," the university's media coordinator Malay Neerav told the media.

He said the university, one of the oldest in the country, was keen to resolve the row that has halted admissions to its affiliated colleges this year, affecting tens of thousands of students.
"We also want the admissions to start soon," he said.

The admissions were to begin Tuesday but were suspended after the University Grants Commission told Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh to scrap the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP).

The FYUP, introduced last year, replaced the better known three-year undergraduate course.

Delhi University's proposal to UGC follows suggestions from vice chancellors of different universities in the country as well as professors and colleges of Delhi University.
The UGC Wednesday cracked its whip on Delhi University, asking its colleges to start admitting students under the three-year undergraduate course "immediately". The diktat may bring cheer to over two lakh students left in the lurch due to the ongoing tussle between the two bodies.

A source in the UGC told IANS that DU colleges have been told to begin the admission process, which was deferred by the colleges Monday in the absence of clarity on the question of rolling back the four-year undergraduate programme to the earlier three-year course.
The UGC sent a letter to the DU at 8.30 p.m. Wednesday, asking the university to begin admissions from Thursday. A Delhi college principal, however, told IANS they have not received any communication yet.

Earlier, in a letter to DU Registrar Alka Sharma sent Tuesday, UGC Secretary Jaspal Singh Sandhu said: "You are to immediately issue letters to the Delhi colleges directing them to admit students in the three-year undergraduate programme."

Meanwhile, DU in a statement said it has "received today (Wednesday) a document, from some eminent citizens, outlining concrete suggestions for the solution of the current situation as it exists".
"While welcoming this initiative, the university is examining in detail the document and is working with the expectation that the admission process shall be able to commence soon."

The statement was in reference to the 20-member group comprising vice chancellors of various universities along with principals and professors of DU colleges who Wednesday put forth a proposal to resolve the impasse between the university and the UGC.

The group appealed to the two bodies to consider providing "a three-year honours programme that is easily devised by reverting to several features of the old semester format and by drastically reducing the existing courses that are not of the honours stream and that exist in the current (four-year) format".
The group includes St. Stephen's principal Walson Thampu, Panjab University vice chancellor Arun Grover, and Anil Tyagi, vice chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

The group also appealed for the validation of an honours degree in three years, and said that the main honours courses may be increased to a total of 17.

"The foundation courses may be reduced in number and may be offered only in the first year. Further, a choice may be built into the format for these courses," the appeal stated.
According to sources, the UGC standing committee, which was set up June 21 to advise DU to migrate from the FYUP to a three-year one, will meet Thursday 5 p.m.

For the second day Wednesday, students were confused over the admission process as the DU colleges were unsure about the roadmap on restoring the previous three-year course.
This was despite the fact that 57 DU-affiliated colleges had agreed to the UGC's order of admitting students to the three-year undergraduate course Tuesday.

There are a total 78 colleges in the university, and 2.7 lakh students have applied for admissions this year.
The Delhi High Court Wednesday also refused to hear a petition seeking restoration of the three-year-course and the scrapping of the controversial FYUP. The Supreme Court had dismissed a similar plea Tuesday.

Protests, for and against the FYUP, continued Wednesday.
Representatives from various students' and teachers' organisations and individuals under the banner of the "Save DU campaign" held a meeting during the day and expressed concern over the continuing delay in the undergraduate admissions.

However, a clear picture emerged over the university vice chancellor Dinesh Singh's resignation, with DU media coordinator Malay Neerav making it clear that Singh still holds the position.

"There has been no progress on the matter. We are still waiting for a clear cut directive from DU. Despite sending a resolution to the vice chancellor Monday followed by a letter to the UGC, we are yet to hear from the university," Ram Lal Anand College principal Vijay K. Sharma told IANS

Srinivasan Takes over As chairman of ICC

Srinivasan Takes over As chairman of ICC

India's N. Srinivasan was confirmed as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Melbourne on Thursday, giving the 69-year-old industrialist the most powerful role in the governing body's restructured organisation.
Srinivasan, who emerged as the leading candidate to become ICC chairman in February, will assume office almost immediately after the governing body rubber-stamped constitutional changes at its annual conference being held this week in Australia.

"It is an honour to be confirmed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council," Srinivasan said in a statement after the 52-member full council approved amendments which, to many observers, give India, England and Australia virtual control of the sport.

Often described as the most powerful man in cricket, Srinivasan became the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) president in 2011 but was ordered to step aside in March to ensure a fair investigation into an illegal betting scandal during last year's Indian Premier League involving his son-in-law.

The Chennai-native was also accused of having a conflict of interest due to his India Cements company owning a franchise in the lucrative Twenty20 league.

Those controversies have led to some criticism of his appointment with one official of a now unrecognised unit within the Indian cricket board urging the country's Supreme Court to bar Srinivasan from taking over as ICC chief.
"I believe that some of the criticism is unfair to me and it's not well-founded," Srinivasan told reporters. "One must judge me by results.

"It's the first day. I have just been elected. One has to wait and see as to what is the effect I have on the ICC before you make that call."

NO STONE UNTURNED

Srinivasan added that he had voluntarily stepped aside from the top BCCI post.
"I have not done anything wrong for which I should feel hesitant to take this position," he added.

Once he assumes the new role at the end of the conference, Srinivasan's priority will be to expand the global reach of a sport that only has 10 teams playing at test level.
"I will leave no stone unturned in trying to strengthen the pillars and foundations of our sport, both on and off the field," he said.

"I want to ensure that cricket retains and grows its popularity, and that the ICC plays a leading role in this global growth.

"I want to see more strong teams in international cricket. For this to be achieved, we all need to work hard to develop local talent in our countries. Naturally, there will be more support to those who first show they can help themselves," Srinivasan added.
The ICC also announced other administrative changes with Mustafa Kamal of Bangladesh elected as its new president, now a titular post, while a new executive committee headed by Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards was also formed.

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke will continue to head the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee in a new structure that will see the "Big Three" boards pocketing the greater share of ICC revenue.

Navi Mumbai Airport May Be operational By December 2018

Navi Mumbai Airport May Be operational By December 2018

Thane (Maharashtra), June 17 (IANS) The first phase of the proposed new international airport in Navi Mumbai is expected to become operational by December 2018, an official said here Tuesday.

The first phase will include one runway of the new airport, arrival and departure terminals and custom, immigration sections.

Designed to ease congestion at the existing single runway Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, the proposed double runway Navi Mumbai International Airport will come up near Panvel as a Public-Private Partnership project on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis.

The airport is expected to cost about Rs.14,500 crore, said Sanjay Bhatia, vice-chairman and managing director of City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) of Maharashtra Limited, which is overseeing the construction of the greenfield airport project.

CIDCO has now embarked on a Rs.20,000-crore infrastructure development of the nodes it manages in the airport vicinity, Bhatia said.

CIDCO has already appealed to various stake-holders listing out various initiatives on the infrastructure aspects, including the settlement with almost all the villages to ensure smooth process of land acquisition, he added.

Among the related projects which would boost the new international airport are a Rs.2,100-crore Metro Rail project, Rs.1,412-crore Nerul-Uran railway line, Rs.1,450-crore Balganga Dam for providing drinking water to Navi Mumbai, an airport township, other coastal roads and bridges.

Besides, the state government is re-activating the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) project and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust is doubling its capacity to handle large vessels.

CIDCO has prepared a three-year action plan to develop 13 schools, four professional colleges, one degree college, 32 hospitals, 34 religious and spiritual centres and 77 community welfare centres, including hostels and indoor and outdoor sports facilities, added Bhatia.

CIDCO plans to construct 6,000 affordable houses for the poor and middle classes in the region.

The local forest department is collaborating with CIDCO to develop a Rs.36-crore Nature Park Project spread over 2,000 hectares.

"It will have walking trails, water conservation projects, viewing galleries, adventure and camping facilities, regeneration of the forest and existing waterfalls, besides a Boulders' Park," Bhatia said.

These projects have attracted major realtors of Navi Mumbai, including Rajesh Prajapati of Prajapati Developers and Mohan Gurnani of Moraj Developers.

They have assured full support to CIDCO to convert Navi Mumbai into a "world-class city" by providing all housing amenities and infrastructure.
