Love blossomed between Amitabh and Jaya while shooting for the film ‘Zanjeer’. The much in love couple got married on June 3, 1973. The couple has now been married for 41 years. But it was not a smooth sail for the couple as that time the angry young man of Bollywood was being linked with Rekha. The love story of Amitabh and Rekha bloomed before his marriage, on the sets of ‘Do Anjaane’. It was even rumoured that the duo has secretly tied knot as Rekha was seen wearing sindoor and mangalsutra at Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s wedding.

But the couple parted ways during the shooting of ‘Silsila’ as Rekha did not want to be the ‘other women’ in her man’s life. But despite all the rumours and controversies, Jaya stood by him and supported Amitabh through thick and thin. Result, 40 years of marriage and one big happy family 

Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu

When it comes to Bollywood couples who have survived through all odds, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, is another beautiful jodi that comes to the mind. Both the stars got hitched at the prime of their career. After failed affairs with Kamini Kaushal, Madhubala and Vyjyantimala, the 44 year old star, got married to Saira Banu, who was 22 years old. Their marriage shocked everyone. But destiny had some other plans as Dilip Kumar fell in love again with a Pakistani beauty Asma. The actor had a torrent love affair with Asma in 1980s.

But this extra-martial affair ended soon after when the actor discovered that Asma is cheating on him by disclosing all his secrets to the media along with her ex-husband. Dilip Kumar finally returned to Saira Banu. Even then many people thought that the marriage will not survive for long due to the wide age gap. But, their 47 years of marriage have proved all the theories wrong. 

Dharamendra and Hema Malini

Dharmendra found his dream girl in Hema. Their love blossomed on the sets of ‘Tum Haseen Main Jawan’. Initially, Hema resisted Dharmendra’s love due to the fact that he was a married man with two sons, but later she fell for his charm. However, Hema’s dad was against their relationship and opposed their marriage. Even Dharamendra’s first wife refused to give him divorce. 

But despite this, the much in love couple did not leave each other’s side and got hitched in 1980. The marriage took place after the death of Hema’s father. The couple even changed their religion to be with each other. They held two marriage ceremonies; first a nikaah and then an Iyengar style wedding. And even after 33 years of marriage their love is still growing with every passing year.

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh

Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s reel life romance slowly turned into real life romance and they got married in 1980. But their marriage hit the rough patch when in late 90s, it was being claimed that short tempered Rishi Kapoor had turned into an alcoholic. It was also reported that the actress has filed a complaint against Rishi for domestic violence and has left him due to his violent behaviour. But she soon returned. Owing to their successful careers many media 'pundits' predicted that their marriage will not last for more than two years, but it did.

For Neetu Singh, those are now things of past, “There always comes a phase in a couple's life when there would be friction, disagreements. Rishi and I also went through that stage. It was just one of those problems which only the husband and wife would understand. Fortunately, we were able to sort out our differences. Today, everything is forgotten.” Even having a tumultuous married life they always stood beside each other and have been together for 33 years. 

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi

It was love at first sight for Boney Kapoor. Sridevi initially resisted his advances, but after continuous persuasion for 15 years she finally agreed to marry him. No one in their wildest dream thought the heartthrob of millions will marry an already married man with two kids. But, despite tongues wagging and the talk that the wedding will soon hit rock bottom, the couple got married in 1996. Their marriage is now almost 17 years-old and even today their love for each other is immortal.

 Shahrukh Khan and Gauri

Shahrukh Khan fell in love with Gauri long before he entered B-town. Their real life love had all threads of a Bollywood romance like religious difference, opposing parents, long-distance, running away and reunion. Even before he got his superstar status, Shahrukh was married to Gauri. But recently it was reported that their marriage was going through a tough time, owing to King Khan’s closeness with co-star Priyanka Chopra.

Shahrukh and Gauri's love and bond stands strong and unmoved despite the actor's linkup rumours. On October 26, 2013, the couple celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.

Union Minister Gopinath Munde dies in road accident

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and union rural development minister Gopinath Munde was killed in a road accident near Moti Bagh area in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The news of his death was confirmed by senior cabinet minister Nitin Gadkari to media persons at the AIIMS Hospital where Munde was rushed for treatment.There was no breathing, no pulse, no cardiac function when Mr Munde was brought to the hospital. Despite efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 7.20 am," said AIIMS spokesperson Dr Amit Gupta.

He was 64 and is survived by his wife Pradnya and three daughters, including Maharashtra legislator Pankaja Munde-Palve.

As mark of respect to deceased leader, Government has decided that the National Flag will be flown half mast Tuesday in Delhi and capitals of states and Union Territories.

Gopinath Munde's body will be kept at BJP's heaquarters at Ashoka Road for leaders to pay respect. Later, it will be sent for autopsy and then to Beed in Maharashtra where his last rites will be preformed on Wednesday.

Expressing his shock, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Gopinath Munde in the road accident. The Prime Minister described Munde as a true mass leader, who rose to great heights and tirelessly served people.
Munde, appointed just over a week ago to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new government, suffered serious injuries while driving to the IGI airport and died in hospital.

"An accident took place earlier in the morning, following which he was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Doctors declared him dead at about 8 a.m.," Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told reporters.

Munde, 64, died in hospital from cardiac arrest. His body will be taken to Beed, Maharashtra where he was supposed to address a victory rally. The funeral will take place in Latur tomorrow.

"On his arrival to the AIIMS trauma centre, there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse and there was no cardiac activity. So immediately CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) was started and continued for the next 15 minutes.

"Despite all aggressive resuscitative measures, he could not be revived and has been declared dead at 7.20 a.m. Immediately the CPR was started and was continued for the next 50 minutes," an AIIMS doctor told media.

Munde was going in his SX4 vehicle at Aurobindo Chowk when an Indica car hit him. The driver of the Indica car which hit the minister's car has been taken into custody.

Munde: BJP's man in Maharashtra who built bridges with others

Gopinath Munde, a farmer's son who became the nation's rural development minister, was adept at building bridges with other parties in the state and became the foremost BJP leader in Maharashtra after the sudden death of his brother-in-law, party strongman Pramod Mahajan in May 2006.

This was until his erstwhile junior ministerial colleague in the Maharashtra government in 1994-99, Nitin Gadkari shot into the limelight on being elected BJP national president in 2009 to salvage the party after its humiliating defeat in the general elections that year.

Born as the third child among five in a middle-class farmer family of Parali in Beed district in the backward Marathwada region, Munde studied in a modest government school where classes were conducted under a tree, before joining a district-level high school and later did his graduation from a college in Ambejogai.

During his college days, Munde met a sauve, soft-spoken young man, Pramod Mahajan, who coaxed him to join the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Later, during the Emergency of 1975-1977 he was jailed for nearly three years as an RSS activist.

Munde found his political calling when he attended a training camp of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Pune later and subsequently took over as an executive committee member of the Pune RSS.

By 1980, the Janata Party coalition in the capital was on the verge of collapse, and the BJP was born out of the former Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

That year, Munde became state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and was also elected a Maharashtra legislator.

Munde's friendship with Mahajan blossomed into a family relationship when he married his sister, Pradnya Mahajan. The couple have three daughters, including Pankaja Munde-Palve, a state legislator elected from their home constituency, Parali.

After working as a legislator of the Shiv Sena-BJP opposition in the state, in December 1991 Munde was catapulted to Leader of Opposition - a coveted post he held till March 1995.

In the Maharashtra assembly elections held later that year, the saffron alliance emerged the surprise winner, ousting the then undivided Congress from power when Sharad Pawar was the chief minister.

While Shiv Sena's Manohar Joshi became the state's first Brahmin chief minister, Munde was made the deputy chief minister and home minister for the SS-BJP government's full term before it was voted out in 1999.

His tenure as home minister became famous for the free hand he gave the Mumbai and state police to eliminate mafia dons and gangsters in what came to be known as the dreaded 'encounter killings' by the police. Many ordinary policemen, given a virtually free hand, went around killing gangsters in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur and other places and were publicly recognized and eulogized.

After Mahajan's death in 2006, Munde gained prominence as the senior-most BJP leader in the state until Gadkari overshot him in the stature in 2009 as the party president. But, then Munde became the deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Despite blowing hot-and-cold, the Munde-Gadkari duo managed a fair working relationship in the party politics. Tuesday morning, Gadkari bore the cross of breaking the news of Munde's tragic death.

With the BJP-led NDA's historic win in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, both Munde and Gadkari were made ministers in the union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, handling important portfolios befitting their stature and experience.

This time even Munde's niece, Poonam Mahajan-Rao (daughter of Pramod Mahajan), was elected from Mumbai. Her brother Rahul Mahajan is a television personality.

Munde is the second mass leader from the backward Marathwada region of Maharashtra to have died prematurely. Two years ago, Congress' strongman and former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh died of illness at the age of 67.
