Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy

HYDERABAD: With the superannuation of P K Mohanty, senior IAS officers IYR Krishna Rao and Rajiv Sharma are to officiate as chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively. 

M Mahender Reddy was named as new Hyderabad police commissioner and B Shivdhar Reddy, IG, intelligence, Telangana. 

Simultaneously, IPS officers J V Ramudu and Anurag Sharma were made in-charge DGPs of AP and Telangana respectively. B Prasada Rao, DGP of united AP, was appointed principal secretary, home. 

Senior IPS officer T P Das was made DG and R P Thakur redesignated as additional DG, vigilance and enforcement, Andhra Pradesh. GOs to this effect were issued on Sunday. Appointments will be effective June 2. 

Meanwhile, the state government posted 5 IPS officers from other cadre on deputation in AP to the Telangana state until June 30. The officers can subsequently join either one of the two states. If they are not accepted, they will be repatriated to their parent cadre. 

The officers are J Ajay Kumar (AM, 1997), D Kalpana Naik (TN 1998), Mahendra Kumar Rathod (TN, 2001), S Gopal Reddy (J&K, 2001) and B Bala Naga Devi (TN, 1995).


City police Commissioner takes charge

Ensuring safety of the public would be the top priority of the city police, said Hyderabad Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, who assumed charge of Monday.

Mr. Reddy took charge from Anurag Sharma, who was made the in-charge Director General of Police of newly-formed Telangana State, in the presence of senior police officials.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Reddy said the police would seek the cooperation of the public not only in maintaining peace but also in crime prevention, detection of crime and prosecution of criminals. “We will act tough against anti-social elements,” he said.

The next priority would be to make the police stations people friendly. “Steps will be taken to ensure that people approach the police without any hesitation or fear,” the Commissioner said.

To a query on challenges in maintaining law and order in view of Chief Ministers of two different States camping in the city, Mr. Reddy replied that the city police would do their best to ensure that peace prevails in any circumstance.

He said that the city police would approach the government with proposals to upgrade its technology, resources, training and manpower.

Mr. Reddy joined Indian Police Service (IPS) in the year 1986 and served in the districts of Karimnagar, Guntur, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kurnool and Hyderabad City in various capacities.

He earlier served as Deputy Director (DIG), SVP National Police Academy, Hyderabad; Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad; Inspector General of Police, Intelligence, AP; Chief of Intelligence, Andhra Pradesh, Chief of Greyhounds and Additional DGP, Intelligence.
