Deepika Padukone gives to the tale the kind of fluent grace and eloquent spin that the audience associates with the female legends of celluloid, namely Meena Kumari and Nutan. Deepika brings the poignant lyricism of the former and the spirited delicacy of the latter into what's unarguably one of the best-written female characters in recent times.
When Pinky goes blind all of a sudden, she doesn't flutter her eyelashes and trip over furniture like any self-respecting blind diva in our cinema would. Wilder has scheduled a 5 p.m. Wednesday news conference in the school's auditorium to announce his decision. The news conference will be televised locally in Tampa. Last week, the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder said that he had narrowed his final three choices to Georgia, Florida and Florida State.
"I've slept on it a lot," Wilder told the St. Petersburg Times last week. "Today I'll have FSU in the lead, tomorrow I'll have UF and in three days I'll have Georgia. I just have to make sure I think a lot about it. I've still got a lot of thinking to do in the last seven days."
Wilder, who also is a devastating force on defense at end and linebacker, narrowed his choices to Georgia, UF and FSU because they recruited Wilder as a running back.

Today is the 90th anniversary the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, the one that gave women the right to vote after a full century of organization, agitation and marching.
On this date in 1920 the Tennessee General Assembly became the 36th state to ratify the amendment, thus making it official.
Few folks remember, however, that the historic ratification occurred by just one single vote, a man, of course, in those days.
It was Harry T. Burn, a lawyer and later a banker. He had settled on his opposition to this suffrage nonsense.
The General Assembly suffrage amendment vote came up a 48-48 tie. Burn's vote would defeat it and postpone national ratification at least another month until the Connecticut Legislature vote.
But shortly before the historic legislative tally, Harry T. Burn received a long letter from his mother back home in Niota.
She said, in part:
I have been watching to see how you stood, but have not noticed anything yet. Don't forget to be a good boy.
Harry T. Burn behaved himself. He changed his "nay" vote to "yea."

Yes, if you look at the breakup; Sesa Goa would be holding 20% of the stake in Cairn and the rest would be through the PLC. The PLC is not as cash rich as we have seen. On the standalone basis the PSU is not cash rich as we have seen in Sterlite or Hindustan Zinc.
Yes, on the parent arm it would be a bit of strength but on Sesa Goa I do not think because it is already having a cash book of Rs 80.5 billion so outflow from that will not matter much for Sesa Goa but for Vedanta PLC it would stretching their balance sheet somewhat.

The rep just released a statement saying Fantasia ingested the medication after feeling "overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention" surrounding her relationship with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Antwaun Cook ... who happens to be married.
The statement continues, "Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized. She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid. Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon."
The rep also explains that Fantasia "believed" Antwaun Cook when he told her "he was not happy in his marriage [to Paula Cook] and his heart was not in it."

The Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan starts after sunset this evening.
Wednesday 11 August will be the first full day of Ramadan, according to a fatwa from the Caucasus Muslims Department. Since a holiday begins at sunset on the previous day, observing Muslims will celebrate Ramadan after sunset today, 10 August.
Ramadan will continue for 30 days until Thursday 9 September or Friday the 10th, depending on the visibility of the new moon.
Ramadan begins a day later in North America this year, Thursday 12 August, again because of the visibility of the new moon.
Ramadan is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, the month in which the Koran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. Fasting during this month is often thought figuratively to burn away all sins.
The Prophet Muhammad told his followers that the gates of Heaven would be open all the month and the gates of Hell would be closed and the devils chained up.
Lailat al Qadr, the Night of Power, marks the night during Ramadan in which the Koran was first revealed to the Prophet. The Koran says that this night is better than a thousand months (97:3), and that on this night the angels descend to earth. This is a time that Muslims spend in study and prayer. It is not known exactly when the Night of Power falls, but it is thought to be in the last 10 days of the month. Because of this, many Muslims will treat the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan as a particularly good time for prayer and reading the Koran.
The first day of the next month is spent in celebrations and is observed as the Festival of Breaking Fast or Eid ul-Fitr.
The times given below are prayer times for Baku during the month of Ramadan. The dates in red are those when the Lailat al Qadr, or Night of Power, is marked.

The selected candidates would be offered a pay scale between Rs.14500- Rs.25700. The opening is for 370 posts and the candidates should be within the age limit of 21-30 Years.

Continental Airlines Inc. announced today that it will cut 1,700 jobs and raise fees for checked luggage, as a result of significant second-quarter losses and falling air traffic, according to The Associated Press.
The airline announced today that it suffered a $213 million loss in the quarter ended June 30, which equaled a loss of $1.72 per share. In comparison, this time last year the company posted a $5 million loss, or roughly 5 cents per share.
Revenue declined sharply, by 22.7%, totaling $3.13 billion. This figure was close to the projected $3.14 billion predicted by analysts in a survey by Thomson Reuters.
Analysts also forecast a loss of $1.35 per share, excluding one-time charges.
The 1,700 layoffs announced by Continental will make up approximately 3.4% of the airline’s total workforce. These job losses are on top of already proposed plans to cut 500 reservation agent positions and put 700 flight attendants on leave.
In raising fees, Continental hopes to increase its revenue by $100 million per year. Part of this plan includes raising the fee for checked baggage by $5. This means that it will now cost $20 to check the first bag and $30 for a second for passengers who check their bags at the airport instead of online. These changes will be effective immediately for all flights on or after Aug. 19.

Unveiled last year amid much fanfare, Wave was supposed to revolutionize the way people communicated online by letting them exchange messages in real-time and collaboratively edit documents. It was regarded by some in the tech community as part email, part Twitter and part instant messaging.
But the service was confusing to many prospective users and will now join a long list of failed projects that Google has launched over the years as it pushes to expand beyond its core online search advertising business.
"Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don't plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product," Google Senior Vice President of Operations Urs Hölzle said in a blog post.

Mr Tata, 72, head of the $70-billion salt-to-software group, who has built the world’s cheapest car and taken the group global, will step down in December 2012, creating a vacancy for what is widely regarded as the top job in corporate India.
The statement from Tata Sons, the group’s holding company, said the five-member panel included one “external member”. It did not name the members.

The establishment of the erstwhile University of Cochin in 1971 was a commitment from the Government of Kerala towards the new scientific policy resolution adopted by the Central Government on 4th March 1958. The birth of the new University was with the specific purpose of “development of higher education with particular emphasis on post-graduate studies and research in applied science, technology, industry and commerce”. The University of Cochin was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986.
