Pune IPL franchise will be called the Sahara Pune Warriors. The name Sahara is taken from the team’s owner, the Sahara Group. The Sahara Group today announced the name of the team, which they have bagged last month in the IPL new team auction.
Sahara Group paid over $370 Million for it and it was chosen from amongts three given choices – Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune. Commenting on the IPL Pune name announcement, Modi, the IPL comissioner told the reporters, “They made the highest bid for all three cities and were asked to chose one of the cities. Accordingly,Pune will be their home ground”.
The Sahara Pune Warriors will join the IPL matches from IPL Season 4 in 2011
