Maintaining that the biggest challenge the country faces today is of an identity divide, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chief Nandan Nilekani says that a lack of identity has denied the poor and the marginalized a chance to effectively participate in economic growth.
Nine months after he began his stint in the government set-up, Nilekani told TOI in an exclusive interview that the absence of an identity has only widened the divide between the rich and the poor in the country.
Removing apprehensions that the census exercise — which includes creation of a National Population Register (NPR) by taking biometric details of individuals — would lead to duplication of work, the former IT czar said, "It is very important for UIDAI if the data is collected as per UID standards."
The data collected by the Registrar General of India (RGI) in compliance with the UIDAI standards and specifications can be the basis for issuance of the unique identity number of residents.
Nilekani said that the unique identity number would come free of cost for poor, but those who can afford may have to pay a reasonable amount, which is still being worked out. The former corporate honcho said: "There will be no charge for the poor." For others, the the cost would be reasonable. "It is still being worked out."
The 16-digit number, he said, would be conveyed to the people through letters.
Clarifying the confusion that with the unique number there will be no need for other documents — date of birth or residential certificate — he said: "All documents will be required. But the identity of an individual will be taken care of."

We have scheduled Chase's endoscopy for Monday, May 3rd at 9am. His reflux has increased so we are looking for anything that will explain what is going on.
Procedure: A microscope will be used to look down his throat and into his stomach, and they will probably do a small biopsy of the stomach and duodenum (first section of the small intestine). He will be under general anesthesia for the procedure. While he is under, they will insert a probe into his stomach through his nose to measure ph levels. The probe will stay in for 12 hours and the top part will be taped to his cheek to try to prevent him from pulling at it. I will remove the probe at home after the 12 hours. for more...

Before the elimination, Chad Ochocinco was under the spotlight. Every week on Dancing With the Stars, the judges select a dance they wish to see again from Monday night. Ochocinco’s Argentine tango was chosen this week.

The much-awaited Settlements on wage revision and pension option have been signed today with the IBA, achieving another landmark in our trade union movement. The 9th successive Bipartite Settlement has been signed and the wages and service conditions of bank employees have been improved. The Pension option Settlement has also been signed today which enables all the remaining employees to be covered by the D.A. linked Defined Benefit Pension Scheme, which is the best social security measure in the post-retiral life of employees.
We are happy that under the banner of UFBU, all the 9 unions have simultaneously signed the Agreements covering both employees and officers, manifesting the true spirit of the UFBU.
The Settlement covers 46 Banks (26 Public Sector Banks, 12 Private Sector Banks and 8 Foreign Banks) and would benefit 4,77,000 workmen employees and 2,75,000 officers. The Settlement would cost the Banks an additional increase in wages by Rs.5,200 crores per year (Rs.4,816 crores for Public Sector Banks and around Rs.400 crores for private and Foreign Banks). The Settlement will be effective from November 2007 to October 2012.
Under the Settlement all the remaining 2,60,000 employees and officers who are now covered by CPF would be given a chance to join the Pension Scheme - a long time demand of the Unions. More than 50,000 retirees will also get the option to join the pension scheme.

1. The Miz and The Big Show defeated John Morrison and R-Truth by DQ when Morrison caught Miz in a triangle submission over the ropes. The referee counted to five and Morrison would not release the hold and he was disqualified.
2. The Miz and The Big Show beat MVP and Mark Henry in a very quick match. MVP hit his finisher on Miz but The Big Show cracked MVP with his knockout punch. The Miz then crawled over for the pin.

Although many observers had speculated that with the resignation of former Union External Affairs minister Shashi Tharoor the IPL controversy would recede to a certain extent, it seems unlikely in the wake of another senior minister, Praful Patel as well as her daughter Poorna Patel’s name emerging in this regard.
The association with Praful Patel with the IPL controversy has been brought to light after a leading news source reported that the Civil Aviation Minister’s personal secretary had sent an email to Shashi Tharoor which contained documents that featured details of the franchisee valuations of the IPL teams. It has been stated that Praful Patel’s personal secretary Champa Bharadwaj had mailed the details toShashi Tharoor on March 19, which is just two days prior to the opening of the bids for the new IPL teams.
At the same time, it has also came to light that the documents were mailed just about two hours after the documents were received by Praful Patel’s daughter Poorna Patel, who is known to be the hospitality manager of IPL after it was reportedly mailed her by IPL CEO Sundar Raman. While reacting to the revelations, the IPL CEO has added that he has no clue what made Poorna Patel forward the mail to the Civil Aviation Minister’s office.

The school is counted as one of the premium schools of Mumbai and is one of the 37 in India that offer the International Baccalaureate Program. She has also been heading the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation which is a non-profit organization primarily devoted towards the promotion of education and health care services for the needy and under privileged in India. Nita Ambani co-owns the IPL team Mumbai Indians.

Jessica Lal was a model in New Delhi, who was working as a celebrity barmaid at a crowded socialite party when she was shot dead on April 29, 1999 by Manu Sharma, the son of Vinod Sharma, a wealthy Congress politician in Haryana, as the murderer. Today on April 19, 2010 The Supreme Court has upheld the life sentence given to Manu Sharma for the murder of model Jessica Lall.
Lall was murdered 11 years ago at a Delhi restaurant by Sharma, “It has given us a lot of satisfaction,” said Sabrina Lall, Jessica’s sister, who has been leading the campaign for justice for her sister’s death.
A trial court in Delhi first acquitted Sharma in 2006. The Delhi High Court then reversed that decision.
Sharma appealed to the Supreme Court against the high court’s verdict that found him guilty.
The Supreme Court Monday dismissed an appeal by Manu Sharma, Congress leader Venod Sharma's son, challenging his conviction and life sentence in the April 1999 murder of ramp model Jessica Lall.

Samantha Charges Now 75 lakhs in Film Industry
Tollywood is a queer place where success has a sentimental angel and once an actor gives a hit, then offers for new films come in an overcrowded queue.
Take the case of Samantha who made a bright debut in Gautam Menon’s Naga Chaitanya starrer “Ye Maya Chesave”; she has now been signed up for three films with top actors.
The actress is presently shooting for Brindavanam co-starring with Jr.NTR. Next she is paired with Mahesh Babu in an untitled film to be directed by Srinu Vytla. Later, she will play the female lead in a bilingual Tamil-Telugu film with Siddharth which will be produced by Kiran Reddy under the banner of Sathyam Cinemas and presented by C. Srikanth of Aghal Films.
According to usually reliable Film Nagar sources, Samantha is now demanding and getting a remuneration of around Rs 75 lakhs per film.

Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle
The stage is all set for the launch of the GSLV D3 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota at 4.27 pm today.
The 29-hour countdown for the lift-off began at 11.27 a.m. yesterday is progressing smoothly.
ISRO Spokesman Mr Satish has said that mandatory checks of the vehicle and charging of the batteries in both the rocket and the satellite are being undertaken during the countdown.
AIR correspondent reports that for the first time, the launch vehicle is powered by a totally indigenous cryogenic engine and will put an advanced communication satellite, GSAT-4, in orbit.
The GSAT-4 which weighs 2,220 kg will carry communication and navigation payloads. The communication payload Ka-band transponder will be used for wide-band multimedia services, e-commerce and high bandwidth Internet.
The navigation payload the GPS-aided Geo-Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) system will help commercial aircraft to land accurately in runways in poor visibility conditions.
History:
The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) project was initiated in 1990 with the objective of acquiring launch capability for Geo-synchronous satellites. Until then, India depended on the former Soviet Union for the launch of heavy satellites.
GSLV uses major components that are already proven in the very successful PSLV launchers in the form of the S125/S139 solid booster and the Vikas L40/L35.5 liquid fuel motors. The first development flight of GSLV-Mk1 (GSLV-D1) was successfully launched on 18 April 2001.
Vehicle description:
The GSLV improved on the performance of the PSLV with the addition of liquid strap-on boosters and a cryogenic upper stage. It is a three-stage launch vehicle with the first stage being solid-propelled, the second liquid-propelled and the final stage being cryogenically propelled. The solid first and liquid second stages are carried over from the PSLV. Early GSLV launches used cryogenic upper stages supplied by Russia. India originally tried to buy the technology to build a cryogenic upper stage from Russia, but under pressure from the United States, that technology was not provided. Therefore, ISRO developed the cryogenic engine used in the GSLV indigenously.
The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (usually known by its abbreviation, GSLV) is an expendable launch system operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was developed to enable India to launch its INSAT-type satellites into geostationary orbit and to make India less dependent on foreign rockets.
The GSLV can place approximately 5000 kg (11,000 lbm) into an easterly low Earth orbit. Using the Russian 12KRB upper stage, with KVD-1 cryogenic rocket engine, GSLV can place 2200 kg (4,850 lbm) into an 18 degree geostationary transfer orbit.
Liquid boosters
The GSLV uses four L40 liquid strap-on boosters derived from the L37.5 second stage, which are loaded with 40 tons of hypergolic propellants (UDMH & N2O4). The propellants are stored in tandem in two independent tanks 2.1 m diameter. The engine is pump-fed and generates 680 kN (150,000 lbf) of thrust.
First stage:
S139 stage is 2.8 m in diameter and is made of M250 grade maraging steel and it has a nominal propellant loading of 139 t.
Second stage:
The second stage is powered by the Vikas engine. It has 2.8 m diameter and uses 37.5 metric tons of liquid propellants with UDMH as fuel and nitrogen tetroxide (N2O4) as oxidizer, in two aluminium alloy compartments separated by a common bulk head. It delivers 720 kN (160,000 lbf) of thrust.
Third stage:
The third stage is a Cryogenic Rocket Engine, 2.8 m in diameter and uses liquid hydrogen (LH2) and liquid oxygen (LOX) in two separate tanks of aluminium alloy interconnected by an inter-stage. Propellant loading is 12.5 t. ISRO plans to use its own cryogenic engine from the fifth planned GSLV flight. On November 15, 2007 the indigenously developed "Cryogenic Upper Stage" was tested for 720 seconds, its full flight duration. The test was conducted at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, ISRO's rocket engine test facility in Kerala. The testing qualified the flight stage for use on the next GSLV launch (GSLV-D3), scheduled to take place in 15th April 2010.

This variant had 139 t (S-139) first stage and improved fuel in the strap-on boosters & second stage. This variant can launch 1900 kg into geostationary transfer orbit.
SLV Mk.II
GSLV Mk.II D3
This variant uses an Indian cryogenic engine and is capable of launching 2500 kg into geostationary transfer orbit.
The GSLV Mk.II D3 vehicle was be the first flight of the GSLV with an Indian cryogenic upper stage. Previous GSLV vehicles (GSLV Mk.I) have used Russian cryogenic engines.

London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow (IATA: LHR, ICAO: EGLL), located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, is the largest and busiest airport in the United Kingdom. It is the second busiest airport in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and it handles more international passengers than any other airport in the world. It is also the busiest airport in the European Union in terms of passenger traffic and the second busiest in terms of traffic movements, second to Paris CDG airport in Paris, France. The airport is owned and operated by BAA, who also own and operate five other UK airports, and is itself owned by ADI Limited, an international consortium, which includes Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and GIC Special Investments, that is led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group. Heathrow is the primary hub for BMI, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Located 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 mi) west of Central London, Heathrow has two parallel main runways spanning east-to-west and five operational terminals. The site covers 12.14 square kilometres (4.69 sq mi). Terminal 5 was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 14 March 2008 and opened to passengers on 27 March 2008. Construction of a new Terminal 2 complex to replace the terminal building and adjacent Queen's Building began in 2009; the first phase is expected to open in 2014. Terminals 3 and 4 underwent major refurbishments that began in 2007 and were completed in 2009. In November 2007 a consultation process began for the building of a new third runway and a sixth terminal and it was controversially approved on 15 January 2009 by UK Government ministers.
LONDON LOCATION:
Heathrow is located 12 NM (22 km; 14 mi) west of central London, near the southern end of the London Borough of Hillingdon. The airport stands on a parcel of land that was designated part of the London Metropolitan Green Belt. To the north, the airport is surrounded by the built-up areas of Harlington, Harmondsworth, Longford and Cranford. To the east are Hounslow and Hatton, and to the south are East Bedfont and Stanwell. To the west, the M25 motorway separates the airport from Colnbrook in Berkshire.
The airport's location to the west of London, and the east-west orientation of its runways, means that airliners usually approach to land directly over the city. Other leading European airports, such as those at Madrid, Frankfurt and Paris, are located north or south of their cities, to minimise the overflying problem. Another disadvantage of the site is that it is low-lying, at 83 feet (25 m) above sea level, and can be prone to fog.
Heathrow is one of six airports serving the London area, along with Biggin Hill, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Southend and City although only Heathrow, Biggin Hill and City Airports are located within Greater London.
