Narendra Modi May Enter Guinness Book Of World Records

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for another record- the highest number of electoral rallies made by a politician in the world

His name has been proposed to the Guinness Records Committee by Agra-based World Record Holders Organisation (WRHO) and the committee has responded to the request by seeking more data on the rallies conducted by Modi.

Talking to IndiaToday.in, Dr Parthsarthi Sen Sharma, general secretary, WRHO, said that the organisation has written to the Limca Book of Records and World Records Academy, US, apart from the Guinness Records Committee. He said that while canvassing for the 16th Lok Sabha elections, Modi held over 1,800 political rallies, in person as well as through 3D holographic technique. This is believed to be the world record of electoral rallies held by any politician.

He said that the organisation has received a response from the Guinness Records Committee on email and is in the process of collating all the data to be sent to the committee for consideration.

            Fugly Bollywood Movie Review

To know the world needs change and to know how to bring about that change are two different scenarios. Most of us think knowing that there's something wrong with the system is enough to be the change. Turns out that is a recipe for disaster. It's a recipe Kabir Sadanand spends more than two hours cooking. He tries hard to get the right dramatic punch. Operative words being "tries hard". Unfortunately for him and his well-intentioned film, it doesn't work out.

For starters the cast gets it woefully wrong. This is a film about four youngsters fighting the good fight against power and corruption. The kind of premise that worked in movies like Rang De Basanti or Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. The subject has potential for memorable drama and grit. That prospect though goes to waste through half baked performances from Mohit Marwah, Kiara Advani, Arfi Lamba and Vijender Singh. The four lead actors look clueless in most scenes. There are flashes in the pan suggesting all four have the talent to be onscreen. But in Fugly their efforts seem to be lost and without conviction.

The writing doesn't help either. Here you have four desperate young people being terrorised by a corrupt cop. They're being forced to steal, sell drugs and plot murders and yet at the first chance to party they pull out fancy dress costumes and dance like there's no tomorrow. Of course Hindi cinema has taught us the merits of suspension of disbelief but you don't leave your brains behind in a story trying to expose the fallacies of politics and police.

Despite its abysmally ineffective screenplay there are a few things Fugly does get right. It's aimed as a fight against all that's ugly in our world today. Most of which is portrayed in the form of the rampant eve teasing and public molestation that happens in Delhi. It also shows the double standards people employ while judging others. Fugly highlights social evils with great effect. But the film's dramatic punches are severely uninspiring. There could've been a genuine sense of loss, misfortune and heart breaking irony. Instead all you get through the misadventures of the four lead characters is vanilla tragedy. It's what movie circles call a certified cop out.

While the protagonists may be struggling, the antagonist of Fugly drives its steam. A huffing, puffing Jimmy Shergill shows you what menace can be. Pity then that even his character suffers such a passé finale.

For the uninitiated, the term Fugly was born online. It's a witty of the f word and ugly. Put together they denote something more than just not-pretty, something that is repulsive. But the word has a zestful pun. It's almost always used with a fun connotation. To use it to describe real scenarios and life-altering themes is to perhaps employ mix metaphors.

June 15: In his first foreign visit after being sworn-in as the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on Sunday reached Bhutanese capital, Thimpu on a two-day visit. He was received by Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay at the Paro airport and was given a ceremonial guard of honour. The focus of talks between the two nations is expected to be over trade and hybrid electricty. He will meet Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and also hold talks with his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay, today. He is accompanied by the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh and a delegation of eight journalists. On Monday, he will also address the joint session of the Parliament of Bhutan. He will also inaugurate one of India's assistance projects -- the building of the Supreme Court of Bhutan. The fact that the Prime Minister chose Bhutan as his first foreign destination assumes significance since China has lately intensified efforts to woo it and establish full- fledged diplomatic ties with Thimphu. Ahead of his visit, Modi said Bhutan was a "natural choice" as his first foreign destination because of the "unique and special relationship". In his pre-departure statement, Modi said relations with Bhutan will be a key foreign policy priority of his government. "I am looking forward to my first-ever visit to Bhutan and to nurturing and further strengthening India's special relations with Bhutan," said Modi before undertaking the trip at the invitation of Bhutan's King and the Prime Minister. "Our relations with Bhutan are unique and especially warm. Our historical and cultural linkages make us natural friends and partners," Foreign Secretary Singh told a press conference in Delhi. "Bhutan is one of our most important strategic partners ....It is a very good country to show our policy of good neighbourliness in South Asia and special token of our friendship," she said explaining why Bhutan was chosen as the first foreign destination of Modi.

Shuddhi has been in the news for quite some time now, and it’s all to do with the casting of the film. Of what we know, Karan Johar has roped in Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor for his prestigious project.

After Hrithik Roshan opted out of Shuddhi due to health issue, the film was almost shelved, but now the project has been revived with the arrival of Salman Khan.

For Karan Johar, Kareena was always the first choice for Shuddhi but she walked out owing to some difference with the filmmaker, and now both have sorted out the issue, and she is almost confirmed for the mammoth project. Karan considers Kareena his sister, and apart from a great professional relationship, the duo bonds very well personally.
“Karan has always considered Kareena as his sister and there is no rift between them, due to Hrithik’s brain surgery, Shuddhi was delayed indefinitely which also affected Kareena’s date. But now all is clear and the film soon will be on floors.” revealed a source close to Karan.

This would be Salman Khan‘s second movie with Karan Johar post Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that released way back in 1998.
Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor have worked in movies like, Kyon Ki, Bodyguard and Main Aur Mrs. Khanna.

The film initially had Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead but later both of them walked out of the project. This was followed by reports that Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone might replace them but the roomers died sooner than expected.

On the other hand, Karan Johar says he is flattered that the upcoming film is being given so much importance.
“I am so flattered that something that I have done has become such a talk point… I feel I am beyond flattered. I have to thank media for giving Shuddhi so much importance. It makes me feel loved and important,” stated Karan Johar at an event.

Karan went on to say, “Both me and the director Karan Malhotra want to thank everyone for giving ‘Shuddhi’ so much importance. I never thought any film of mine will garner so much importance. I thought we were talking about Shuddhi more than national politics,” added the talented filmmaker.

However, there is no official confirmation yet from Dharma Productions on this one.

MANAUS, Brazil, June 14 (Reuters) - A cool-headed Italy proved too clever for England on Saturday, scoring two well-crafted goals and defending doggedly in the Amazon heat to grab a 2-1 win in their opening World Cup Group D game.

Italy grabbed the winner in the 50th minute when midfielder Antonio Candreva outfoxed England left back Leighton Baines and chipped a cross deep into the area for Mario Balotelli to head in from close range at the far post.
England otherwise dominated the second half but could not find a way past back-up keeper Salvatore Sirigu, deputising for the injured Gianluigi Buffon.

Italy are joint top of the group with Costa Rica while England must beat Uruguay in their next game to retain realistic hopes of reaching the last 16.
The result was fair and reflected well on both teams, who did not shirk in high humidity and temperatures that were still 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) at kickoff.

"We played well. It was a hard fought victory but we kept control of the midfield," Italian manager Cesare Prandelli told reporters.
The Italians started with five men in midfield in a bid to clamp down on fleet-footed English forwards Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck.

England began well but some players, including Wayne Rooney and Baines, had games to forget.
Baines often looked out of his depth with Italy regularly mounting dangerous raids down their right flank and Prandelli`s team took the lead in the 35th minute after a cleverly worked corner.

When the ball was played into Andrea Pirlo the veteran midfielder let it run under his boot and Claudio Marchisio had time to hammer home a 25-metre right-foot shot.
"They caused us a lot of problems down our left-hand side in the first half but we made tweaks at half-time and dealt with it better," England captain Steven Gerrard said.

LOVELY PASS

England recovered quickly and two minutes later a lovely pass from Sterling sent Rooney haring down the left and his curling cross was met by a sweet half-volley from Sturridge.
Italy, though, came close to scoring again in first-half stoppage time.

Balotelli chipped the ball over goalkeeper Joe Hart, only for Phil Jagielka to head it off the line, and seconds later a clever pass found Candreva alone in the area but he crashed his shot against Hart's right post.
Sirigu was in good form in the second half, palming away fierce shots from Welbeck and substitute Ross Barkley as well as a free kick from Baines.
"It is a very disappointing result and there is no reason take positives when you have lost," England manager Roy Hodgson said.

"But my gut feeling is that we did some very good things on the pitch but unfortunately we conceded that second goal."
England eventually paid the price for their efforts in the heat. Among others, Gerrard and Sturridge went down with cramp.
"It was a tough night. It was warm, sticky - it was a tough pitch - it was dry. But they're excuses. Italy were very good," said Gerrard.

Pirlo almost made it 3-1 in second-half stoppage time but his swirling 30-metre free kick crashed against the bar.
The players appeared to have no problems with the pitch, which had been damaged by humidity in the months running up to the tournament and required special repairs.

But Prandelli said it was "madness" not have an officially sanctioned time out in the brutal conditions.
"We had to lower the rhythm to gather breath, it was impossible to keep up that intensity," he said.
The result was the first World Cup win in four games for Italy, who drew two and lost one of their 2010 matches.

The defeat meant England have not beaten a major nation at the World Cup since a 1-0 win over Argentina in 2002.

NEW DELHI: The new government kicked into gear this week, clearing billions of dollars worth of long-delayed defence projects, including a big navy base, as well as approving the scaling-up of one of the country's biggest dams.
The decision to give the projects the go-ahead despite concern about their environmental and social impact signals Prime Minister Narendra Modi's no-nonsense approach to issues he considers to be important for national security.

The clearances were made over several days and were the first major decisions from the government that swept to power on May 16 on promises of getting Asia's third-largest economy moving and building a stronger country.
Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said the government could not compromise on efforts to build military and civil infrastructure on the border with China as well the west-coast naval base in as an alternative to crowded Mumbai port.

As well as the $2 billion extension to the Karwar base Karnataka, Javadekar approved a radar station in the Andaman and Nicobar islands in the Bay of Bengal.
A defence source said he also planned to fast-track road building along the disputed border with China.
Javadekar said China had built infrastructure in the Coco Islands, which are controlled by Myanmar and just to the north of the Andamans.
if you have a situation where China is sitting in front and we won't do anything, how can you run the country like this," he said in comments made available to Reuters on Friday.
The radar station proposal had earlier been turned down because the Environment Ministry under the last government saw a threat to the Narcondam Hornbill, an endangered bird species.
The radar on Narcondam island is one of 18 that the military has planned, running north to south along the Andamans, which straddle the strategic seaway leading to the Malacca Straits.

This year, India's patchy radar meant it was unable to say whether missing Malaysian airlines flight MH370 had passed over the islands.
Modi met China's foreign minister this week and is likely to visit Beijing this year, but he is also keen to quickly build up border defences that have fallen far behind India's neighbour.
The 63-year-old's first foreign foray will be on Sunday to tiny Bhutan, a Himalayan buffer between India and China that has long been a close Indian military and diplomatic ally.

HIGHER DAM

Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party has promised to end a prolonged period of paralysis at the Defence Ministry where weapons acquisitions and infrastructure contracts were frozen because of fear of corruption scandals.
Javadekar said he had also cleared the second phase of a naval base in Karwar, on the west coast, that had stalled because environmental activists had warned the ecology of the Western Ghats mountains would be affected.

The base is intended to take the load off Mumbai port, used by the navy and civilian ships. The navy has also said it wanted a more secure base to berth its latest aircraft carrier.
"Mumbai is a target. We need an alternative. It is of strategic importance," he said.

The Environment Ministry is also trying to fast-track roads and defence projects classified as strategic.
Radars and telecommunications projects within 100 km (62 miles) of the 4,000-km (2,500-mile) border with China, large parts of which are disputed, will be put on an automatic approval list, a defence source said.

As well as the military projects, the government on Thursday approved a long-stalled proposal to raise the height of the Narmada dam to 138.73 metres (455 feet), from 121.92 metres (400 feet), so more water will be available for drinking, irrigation and power generation.

The project will benefit Modi's home state of Gujarat. As chief minister of the state, he campaigned for approval to build the dam higher to protect farmers from drought.

Activist Medha Patkar, who has long campaigned against the project, said about 250,000 people will be displaced.

She said the government appeared to have rushed into the decision without looking at the social and environmental impact as required by law.

"How could the government deal with such a grave situation and go ahead just because Mr Narendra Modi is the prime minister?" she said

Woman Gangraped in MP village over property Dispute

Bhilai Borkhedi village, Madhya Pradesh:  The horrific crimes against women just refuse to cease. On Tuesday, a tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by 10 men, including her husband, in Madhya Pradesh's Bhilai Borkhedi village. She was also allegedly made to drink urine and paraded semi-naked in the village.

A few months ago, the woman and her husband had a dispute over a piece of land, following which he allegedly attacked her with an axe. The woman registered a complaint with the police and then moved into her parents' house in another village along with her 10-year-old son.

On Tuesday night, the woman's husband allegedly asked her to meet him in their village to reach a "compromise" in the axe attack case.
When the woman and her son reached their husband's village, they were allegedly tied up and locked in a store room by the husband and nine other men.

The woman was then allegedly thrashed and gang-raped.
She has also alleged that when she pleaded for some water, the accused urinated on her and made her drink it. They then paraded the woman in the village in a semi-nude state.

The woman was rescued by her relatives on Thursday after they found out that she was locked in the store room. She has been admitted to a hospital and her condition is now said to be stable.
All the 10 accused have been arrested and booked for gang-rape and assault. "According to the woman she was gang-raped and kept captive in her husband's house for three days... We are investigating the case," said the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhilai Borkhedi village.

The husband has denied the gang-rape charges. "I only slapped her and beat her with sticks," he said.

The case is the latest in a string of horrific sexual crimes against women that have been reported this month.

Washington:  US President Barack Obama has appointed an eminent Indian-American scientist to a key science position in his administration.
Sethuraman Panchanathan, an IIT Bangalore alumni, has been appointed as member of the prestigious National Science Board of the National Science Foundation, a White House statement
said.

A 1981-batch graduate in Physics from the Vivekananda College (University of Madras), Panchanathan worked as a Data Communication Engineer for International Software India Limited in Chennai, in 1986.

Panchanathan has a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in 1984. He also has an M.Tech from the IIT, and a PhD from University of Ottawa, Canada.
He has held a number of positions at Arizona State University since 1998 and is a professor in Computing and Informatics there since 2009.

He has published over 400 papers in refereed journals and conferences and has mentored over 100 graduate students, post-docs, research engineers and research scientists who occupy leading positions in academia and industry.

THE HAGUE: Akashdeep Singh scored two goals as India posted a comfortable 3-0 win over Asian champions South Korea to finish a lowly ninth in the men's hockey World Cup at the Kyocera Stadium here today.
With this win in the ninth-10th place play-off match, India had managed to avenge upon their 3-4 loss to South Korea in the final of last year's Asia Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Akashdeep opened India's account in the sixth minute by tapping in a square-pass from SV Sunil and then rounded off the scoring with a reverse hit in a crowded circle in the 50th minute.
In between, Rupinder Pal Singh converted a penalty stroke in the 42nd minute after his penalty corner flick was stopped by a defender with body on the goal-line.
India ended the World Cup one notch below their eighth-place finish at New Delhi edition in 2010.
The first raid gave India the lead in the sixth minute of play when captain Sardar Singh fed Sunil the ball on the right flank in a counter-attack starting from inside the Indian circle.
Sunil moved up, down the flank beating the only defender blocking his view of the goal and drew out the Korean goalkeeper before squaring the ball for Akashdeep to flick into an open goal.
South Korea posed a threat to India in the 10th minute when unmarked Jeon Byung-jin picked up a pass on top of the circle and had only the goalkeeper PR Sreejesh in front. But as he took the shot after tapping the ball into the circle, Rupinder dived across to deflect the ball out.
A sustained Indian pressure on the rival circle in the 20th minute saw the Koreans put up a solid defence to keep the ball out of the scoring area and curbing the space available for the Indian strikers.
Rupinder again deftly tackled Korean striker Jeon Byung-jin on top of the circle in the 27th minute. Three minutes later, India came close to scoring again when Sunil dribbled into the circle after picking up a long aerial ball on the 25-yard line.

Indian youngsters look To shine In Bangladesh

India's fringe players will have a chance to impress the selectors in the build-up to next year's cricket World Cup on Sunday when they begin a short one-day series tour to Bangladesh.
The visitors are without eight regulars, including captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the prolific Virat Kohli, for the three day-night matches, which will all be played at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in the capital Dhaka and led by Suresh Raina.
Just four members of the squad -- Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny and Wriddhiman Saha -- will fly to England later in the month for a marquee tour comprising five Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20.
The series offers the likes of Pujara, who has six Test centuries but has played in just two one-dayers, a chance to stake their claims to a place in the squad for next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
"It is a good opportunity for all the young players who are part of this tour," Pujara, 26, said after being named for the Bangladesh series.

'WON'T BE THAT EASY'
"Playing against Bangladesh in their home conditions won't be that easy. Bangladesh is a good team. We have a young side so it will be competitive."
For Bangladesh, it will be their first series under new coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, who has been handed a two-year contract following the recent departure of Australian Shane Jurgensen.
Hathurusinghe would be keen to start off on a winning note and turn around the fortunes of the perennial whipping boys of international cricket.
"My main goal is to make sure that when my two years is finished, Bangladesh are in a good position to win matches at home and away," the former Sri Lankan opening batsman said in a press conference earlier this week.
Ranked a lowly ninth in ODIs, Bangladesh have had a string of disappointing shows recently with a 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka followed by early knockouts from the Asia Cup and World Twenty20 despite being hosts of both tournaments.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim said the team had an opportunity to bounce back with a good show against the second-string Indian side.

'DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO TAKE IT LIGHTLY'
"I didn't expect them to take this series so lightly," the wicket-keeper batsman told reporters recently.
"We have a chance to give a reply on the field. There is extra motivation.
"And one should not forget that if they lose, India will lose, not India A," the skipper added.
India, the World Cup holders, currently lie third in the ODI rankings.
The other two matches are on June 17 and 19.
