HYDERABAD: Students of colleges on Osmania University campus observed a bandh demanding release of tuition fee and pending scholarships to SC, ST and BC students here on Wednesday.
Responding to the bandh call given by the university committee of Students Federation of India (SFI), students of various university colleges boycotted classes and took out a rally from Arts College to NCC.
Addressing the rally, SFI State president Hari Kishore said that the Government was not making adequate budget allocation towards scholarship. As a result, the economically and socially backward students were being deprived of higher education.
While 3.19 lakh BC students had applied for scholarships, only 24,000 students had been sanctioned the same. While the requirement was Rs.165 crores for one year, only Rs. 84 crores had been sanctioned for two years, Mr. Hari Kishore said.
For tuition fees, against the pending amount of Rs.6.2 crores at the end of last year, the Government sanctioned only Rs.5 crores for the two years.
SFI university secretary B. Janardhan said that poor students were unable to renew their admission as the tuition fee had not been released to the BC students so far.
Hyderabad Bandh and KCR arrest: Tension prevailed in Telangana districts of Andhra Pradesh after police successfully scuttled the “fast unto death” program demanding statehood to Telangana region planned by the president of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, or TRS, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Sunday morning.
Rao, also a Member of Parliament, was arrested at Alugunur near Karimingar when he was on his way to reach Siddipet in Medak district where he was scheduled to begin the fast. He was later produced before the magistrate of Khammam district and was shifted to the sub jail there, where he continued his fast.
The police took into custody several top ranked leaders of TRS including some of the members of legislative assembly and produced them before magistrate court in Medak and later shifted them to jail. Some of them were released on bail in the evening, while some preferred to stay back in jail, refusing to avail bail.

He added that when they had started their second film, they chose the working title ‘Arya 2,’ which went very close to people and hence finalized the same.

List of 8450 picked up candidates for the Non-Executive Posts
The Commission issued an advertisement on 13-11-2009 in Andhra Jyothi, Deccan Chronicle, Sakshi and Siasath News Papers directing 8452 candidates picked up for Non-Executive posts of Group-II Services Notification No.32/07 whose register numbers and names were made available in the Commission’s website to submit copies of certificates and duly filled in check list without waiting for receipt of Commission’s Memo to save time.
The Commission directed 1088 candidates through Memo No. 1303 / RS-23-B/2007, dt.21-07-2009 to submit copies of certificates and check lists on or before 17-08-2009. In the above list of 8452 picked up candidates the list of 1088 candidates was also included.
The Commission has now uploaded a revised list of 8450 picked up candidates for Non-Executive posts of Group-II Services with register numbers and names by excluding the above 1088 candidates.

Kartik Purnima or the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik will fall on Monday. The day formally puts an end to the celebrations in the name of Diwali while marking the commencement of the month long Ganga snan fair organised by locals in the city. Arrangements have been made to facilitate Kartik snan in Gomti.
Kartik snan or immersing oneself in any river is said to be of great importance on this day. The reason, it is believed, is that all sins wash away through this ritual. When men will be busy with the snan, women will offer prayers to Tulsi, asking the gods to shower their blessings on them. Lord Satyanarayan is also worshipped on this day when he wakes up from his long sleep. This marks the beginning of auspicious days and the advent of celebrations like marriages and other functions.
Meanwhile, hectic preparations were underway at Gurudwaras in the state capital for celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the founder of Sikhism. The biggest congregation is expected at Gurudwara Naka Hindola. Gurudwaras in Yahiyaganj and Aashiana are also expected to see devotees in large numbers. The day in most of the Gurdwaras will be marked by conclusion ceremony of the akhand paath of the Gurugranth Sahib -- religious book of the Sikhs -- which begins two days before the main day. This is followed by kirtans, religious sermons and distribution of the prasad.
